Day 6 results Tuesday as Puerto Rico clinch last quarter-final berth

Defending Champions United States will advance to the quarter-finals of FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup undefeated (5-0) after dismantling Bosnia and Herzegovina 121-59 on the last pool day, Tuesday September 27.

Plum Kelsey recorded 20 points, four rebounds and seven assists while chelsea Grey added 16 points as the United States broke the team record for most consecutive World Cup wins.

The United States are now unbeaten in 27 games and will carry some serious momentum ahead of the knockout stages.

Puerto Rico knocked out South Korea 92-73 to advance to the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in its country’s history.

Mya Hollingshed drilled at home 29 points and Arella Guirantes added 18 as the Caribbean nation routed their rivals.

China consolidated a solid performance in the pool round with an 81-55 win over Belgium to finish second in Group A.

The score after the third period was 54-45 before the Chinese side launched a final offensive charge to claim victory over the 2018 fourth.

Elsewhere, Australia went 71-54 against Japan to dismiss the Tokyo 2020 silver medalists from the tournament.

The victory of the Opals, ensured by the efforts of Sami Whitcomb who led Australia in scoring with 15 points means they finish top of Group B.

Canada took second place in the group after beating Mali 88-65 with Kayla Alexander delivering a double-double performance conceding 19 points and 14 rebounds.

Serbia clinched third place in Group B after beating European rivals France 68-62.

In this rematch of the Tokyo 2020 bronze medal match, it was the Serbs who came out on top thanks to a significant effort from Yvonne Anderson who finished the game with 18 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals.

This event in Sydney is a Paris 2024 Qualifier, with the World Cup winner also securing a spot in the upcoming olympic games.
