DOK Leipzig announces its Co-Pro Market selection

– 34 projects from 32 countries, including a very first series at the market and four projects spotted at other events will participate in this year’s edition

DOK Leipzig has announced the selection of its 18th DOK Co-Pro Market, with 34 documentary projects from 32 countries selected from 262 submissions. The event will take place on October 17 and 18 during the festival.

Some of the producers or directors invited to the DOK Co-Pro Market have already shown films at the festival in the past, including Gesa Hollerbach (Everything for the campaign) who arrives with his project Overlay, Balint Revesz (grandma’s project) with Voice off, Jasmila Zbanic (One day in Sarajevo [+see also:

) with Blum and Suzanne Kim (imagine swimming, Cabinets of Wonders) with Become Kim.

The presence of Georgian projects is notable, with three films taking part in the market: kartli by Tamar Kalandadze and Julien Pebrel, The Mud Princess by Dea Tcholokava and Georgia boxes by Gvantsa Meparishvili, in which the director accompanies volunteers to a humanitarian aid collection center in Tbilisi that sends vital goods to Ukrainians. During this time at a bit foreign, ukrainian director Svitlana Lishchynska films his Russian-speaking family for more than a year during the Russian attacks on their homeland.

Other projects deal with global topics. In terms of artistic approaches, several projects are based on archival materials, in particular Aylaa Moussait is Become Omer Khairy, Nayibe Tavares-Abelit is Colossal and Sara Timarit is Under the dance floor.

Four projects that the DOK Industry team spotted during partner training initiatives and film markets are also part of the selection: Alexander Belinsky and Agne Dovydaityteit is Baltic UXO (East Doc Platform), Arjun Talwarit is A hole in the wall (Doc Lab Poland Docs to start with), Arnold Aganzeit is Kange (Durban FilmMart) and In the light of darkness (Documents by the sea). A fifth project will be selected during the BDC Discovery Workshop at the end of September.

Finally, the first series project ever put on the market is The sharp end of a knife by Godisamang Khunouwhich features inmates of a women’s prison in Johannesburg serving life sentences after defending themselves against their abusive husbands.
