At November 9, 2006, Havecon Kassenbouw was founded by Aad Voorwinden and Henk Verbakel. 15 years later, Havecon has become a leading international player in the realization of turnkey horticultural projects. This article, written by Havecon, takes you through a piece of history about the origin and developments within the company and the interweaving with the Voorwinden group.
For many, the name Havecon remains a question: where does it come from? The name Havecon comes from a combination of H from Henk, A from Aad, V (e) from Voorwinden and Verbakel, and finally from the “con” of construction. The aim was to become, with the strength of Voorwinden, a well-known builder who would produce, deliver and build greenhouses of unprecedented quality both nationally and internationally.

The early years
“The first few years were exciting and uncertain. The company had to gain the trust of its customers and quickly conquer new ones in a market where competition has always been fierce. We therefore thank the customers from the very beginning for the confidence they have. Thanks to them, we have been able to make the company what it is today ”, declared the Havecon team.
In 2009, the first lines were drawn towards North America, and the ambition that the two entrepreneurs cherish: “A beautiful continent with a lot of growth potential where we could operate in a very distinct way with our own Dutch work” Voorwinden “. This culminated in 2010 with a first assignment for Intergrow in New York State. “
The collaboration with Voorwinden was an important part of it. Thanks to the close cooperation with Voorwinden, it has always been possible to easily switch between execution, planning and the drawing board in the Havecon office.
When Aad’s sons Maik and Kris Voorwinden joined the company, it was renamed Voorwinden Groep (VWG).
As the market has established itself the possibilities have become greater and Havecon has been mentioned more often and has acquired a more international character. More and more large-scale projects have emerged and Havecon has become a reliable partner in the construction of high-tech horticultural greenhouses. The market kept growing with it and the demand for greenhouse projects increased as the economy took hold in the years following 2013. It was also the time (2017 / 2018) where the cultivation of (medicinal) cannabis was booming in Canada. Dutch knowledge has often been brought in for this purpose.
In 2017, Aad stepped down as co-owner at Havecon, and within Voorwinden day-to-day management was taken over by the next generation, Maik and Kris. Aad is still closely involved with the organization and can also be found there on a daily basis.
“In 2018, the time had come for a big move. We said goodbye to the Marconistraat and moved into the new building on the Lorenzstraat a few blocks away. First temporary accommodation in the factory, then, at the end of 2019, the new office building was put into operation. With its own aluminum production plant and a new, more spacious office building, the move offered new opportunities for expansion and meeting market demand.
“In addition to the move to Bleiswijk, there were also plans to open an office in North America: to better serve this market, a good base was needed. However, that did not mean that the work near home stopped. A good combination of projects close to home and projects abroad is always the goal. “
Move to the new offices on Lorentzstraat in Bleiswijk.
“On October 2, 2018, our office was officially opened in Niagara-on-the-lake, Ontario, Canada. This is a convenient location near Niagara Falls, nearby of our customers in Canada and also close to the US border It is a welcome addition to the increasingly international character that Havecon has acquired. Havecon North America makes a crucial contribution in the areas of sales, engineering and site management.
Havecon has construction projects all over the world.
“In Sarajevo-Bosnia, Havecon has had a department to support its Research and Business Development department since 2017. Colleagues in Bosnia focus on the design and visualization of our projects. Among other things, they provide the supports and 3D visualizations in the projects and work closely with the office in the Netherlands. “
In 2019, the Atrium Agri group was created in which Havecon played an important role. Collaboration between the different parties makes it possible to shorten the lines and better tackle (future) projects together. The shared knowledge of different types of cooperation partners is shaping more streamlined development in the sector. For example, there is cooperation in the areas of purchasing, R&D and engineering.
“A deal is a deal. Say what you do and do what you say” is Havecon’s motto. It doesn’t get much harder than that.
